Look for Less: NYFW Street Style

Today’s LOOK FOR LESS is brought from the street styles found during New York Fashion Week. This just shows how you can easily recreate a high fashion, expensive look with more affordable pieces. The Oxblood leather is perfect for fall months, especially when paired with a sexy pair of t-strap pumps!

Fall Trend: Statement Jewelry and Tights

With chilly weather right around the corner, I will definitely be strutting around in some pantyhose and tights for an extra layer.  I’ve picked some fun tights that are attention grabbers and if paired with the right jewelry, can make a whole look even better.
Fall Trend: Statement Jewelry and Tights
These tights and pieces of jewelry are BOLD, so I suggest the patterns and shape of the rest of your outfit be simple.  Stick with solid, yet bold colors when wearing these tights with a dress.  If you’re going for a more comfortable look, pair these statement tights with jean shorts and boots.  The best part of these tights is that each piece of jewelry can be worn with any of the tights.  Variety is a plus and enables you to mix and match the different pieces.

Stylish Teacher: Part 1

So it’s that time of year for back to school!  My sister is a teacher and couple of my very best friends are teachers as well so I thought it would be fun to show just how stylish teaching can be!

Although I’m not molding the minds of today’s youth, I figured there would be a few requirements for a teacher’s wardrobe:

1. Comfortable

2. Appropriate

3. Simple

4. Stylish (duh)

Stylish Teacher: Part 1
Stitch sweater / Dorothy Perkins v neck top / Wallis lightweight jacket / Izabel London black skirt / Uniqlo pants / Old Navy plus size pants / Wingtip shoes / Call it SPRING black pumps, $20 / Old Navy silver shoes / Tasha hair accessory

All 3 looks encompass all 4 major essentials when it comes to shopping for a teacher’s wardrobe.  Footwear is the most important aspect.  I suggest opting for flats or wedges on most days and since fall is right around the corner, those toes better be covered!

The first look is definitely more of a “Casual Friday” look.  Very cozy, very chic, and very comfy.

The middle look is more classic; the midi skirt is perfect for a fall day and the wedges add some height and style without being too fussy and uncomfortable.

The last look is a cool way to wear a colored pair of pants.  The neutral flats and grey blazer keep it low key and not too flashy.

WATCH OUT FOR STYLISH TEACHER PART 2, COMING SOON! And don’t forget to show all your teacher friends!

Fall Trend: White on Top, Black on Bottom

Fall is right around the corner so just about every style magazine has begun jumping on the FALL 2013 Trends.  One of my favorite trends is the black and white combo: White on Top, Black on Bottom.  It can dressed up or dressed down.  Black and White NEVER go out of style so any buys you make will be long-lasting!

Look #1 : Va-Va Voom

This is daring look, perfect for a weekend party.  Pair it with a cropped leather jacket and you’re good to go!

Look #2 : Office Space

Loving the softness of the lace paired with these wide leg trousers and the pop of red is perfect.

Look #3 : Wintery Weekend

I would love this look for a chilly weekend running errands or grabbing lunch with friends.

Look #4 : Lovely in Loungewear

If I’m lounging around the house this would definitely be my cozy, go-to look.  If I needed to run an errand real quick, I’d throw on these cute sneaks.

Blonde vs. Brunette – Independence Day Challenge

July 4th Celebrations are right around the corner!  Whether you’re going to watch fireworks with a special someone, partying with a group of friends, or cooking out with your family, the 4th of July is the perfect time to play around with fresh and fun outfit ideas.

LOOK #1 – USA All Day

This a comfy outfit that can be worn all day in the blistering sun and be comfy for the cool summer night.  Look at the maxi dress more like a skirt by wearing a cropped shirt over it.  Also try a chambray shirt as fall and cooler weather approaches.  Because this is an all day outfit, I paired a metal detail sandal that is both comfy and chic.

LOOK #2 – ONE OF THE GOOD OLE’ BOYS

This is a casual cookout look.  Nothing beats a good pair of chuck taylor converse and the white are perfect for the summer (if you can keep them clean).  This tank may be in the men’s section but I like the fact that it would be a little bigger in the arm hole.  Grab a red zip up because a good cookout always goes long after the sun goes down.

LOOK #3 – BABY YOU’RE A FIREWORK

This suit is AWESOME.  The retro shape and contrasting lines will be the perfect silhouette for all body types.  And the belt hits at the smallest part of a women’s waist and will create an amazing shape.  This suit is so fierce throw on a floppy hat, sexy wedges, some big sunglasses and work it!

ALEX – THE BRUNETTE

LOOK #1 – BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE

The theme of this look is tough chick patriotism .  It’s a different take on the usual red-white-n-blue theme, but still shows your love for the good ‘ol USA.  I would wear something like this to a cookout with family and friends.

LOOK #2 – PEACE, LOVE & AMERICA

Cue Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix music, now please.  This outfit is my modern take on Woodstock meets Fourth of July.  The flower crown doesn’t have to be for the bold and daring; the small flowers are simple and not overwhelming.  I love the look of a high waisted midi skirt and a tube top or bralette; very feminine and fun.  Finish the look off with a pair of comfortable wedges and you’ve got yourself a perfect outfit to wear for your honey while you enjoy the fireworks!

LOOK #3 – American Woman

This look is for all of us wild women out there who just like to have a damn good time and look cool while doing it.  The graphic tee is so freaking fantastic and perfect for this edgy, rock ‘n roll vibe.  Aviators will always be badass and the bright red ankle boots are killerrrrrr.  To keep it not-so-costumey I’d go with a pair of sweet embroidered shorts, to contrast the hardness of the rest of the outfit.  Rock on, America.

To Save or To Splurge? SAVE, DUH!

Let’s face it: cheaper is cheaper, because it’s not the best quality and it probably won’t stand the test of time.  But I think that’s perfectly acceptable when it comes to buying trendy items that I know I won’t necessarily want to keep until I’m old and gray.  However, when it comes to a good pair of jeans, a nice winter coat, or a timeless pair of heels, I think it’s necessary to fork out a little more dough.

I’m here to show you 5 expensive, trendy, summer accessories that we’d love to get our hands on, can be had–at a lower price.  Can’t beat it!

1. THE LACE BRALETTE

Caterina Lace Bralette

NastyGal-Caterina Lace Bralette

BIG SPENDA [Nordstrom.com $150.00]

vs.

PENNY PINCHER [NastyGal.com $18.00]

For all us ladies that lack in the chesticle region, I personally think this lace bralette is comparable to a little cleavage.  It comes in a ton of colors and looks great peeking out from under a loose fitting tank top during a summertime outting.

2. THE INITIAL NECKLACE

Laura Lee Letter Necklace

Asos-Laura Lee Letter Necklace

Diament Jewelry for Urban Renewal Tiny Letter Necklace

BIG SPENDA [Asos.com $313.95]

vs.

PENNY PINCHER [Urbanoutfitters.com $9.99]

I love these necklaces!  They are simple and can be worn with other necklaces for a chunky, statement necklace effect.

3. THE TROPICAL BASEBALL CAP

Deena and Ozzy Tropic Heat 5-Panel Hat

UO-Deena and Ozzy Tropic Heat 5-Panel Hat

Xhilaration Floral Baseball Hat

Target-Xhilaration Floral Baseball Hat

BIG SPENDA [Urbanoutfitters.com $24.00]

vs.

PENNY PINCHER [Target.com $9.99]

Although it’s not insane to spend around $25 for a baseball hat, it just seems silly to do that when you can get it for less.  Personally, I like the white pattern better, but I like the cheaper priced black pattern even more.  Perfect for a day at the pool or as a funky accessory for a day at an amusement park.

4. HALTER BIKINI

Coral Bikini 183.00 Nasty Gal

Nasty Gal-Coral Bikini

Forever 21 23.60

 BIG SPENDA [NastyGal.com $183.00]

vs.

PENNY PINCHER [Forever21.com $23.60]

I am super weird about tan lines, so I usually opt for the bandeau bikini top or a triangle top with straps I can remove.  HOWEVER, this top is so cute with the 90’s halter vibe, that I need to get my hands on one.  That’s why I’d go for the F21 version and wear it when I’m feelin’ feisty!

5. THE STUDDED CROSSBODY BAG

House of Harlow 1960 Flat-Stud CrossBody Bag 250.00

Forever 21-Bolt Stud Crossbody Bag

Forever 21-Bolt Stud Crossbody Bag

BIG SPENDA [Urbanoutfitters.com $250]

vs.

PENNY PINCHER [Forever21.com $27.80]

These bags are a staple item to jazz up a casual summer date night outfit.  The bags are so similar; even if I had $250 to throw around I would still buy the F21 version!

ENJOY!
