Jazz up a onesie

Yesterday I went to a baby shower and decided why not post some of the fun things I like to gift.  So, this is very simple if you are a beginner, all you need is a threaded sewing machine. You can pick any color onesie, fabric, and any shape/silhouette.  Jazz it up even more with buttons, rhinestones, ribbons, etc.

You will need:

  • Onesie
  • Fabric
  • Fusible webbing
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Sewing Machine

First, pick what you what shape you want.  If it is something you can’t easily draw, look online for a silhouette and draw it, like I did with the whale shape.  Once that is drawn, you will want to iron (on medium heat) the fabric onto the fusible webbing.

Then, either cut the shape out from memory or use the drawing and place it on top of the fabric (connected to the webbing) and cut the shape out.

Next, peel the back of the webbing off and place it where you want it to be on the onesie.  Once you have it placed perfectly, place the iron (still on medium heat).  When it is heated, it will be difficult to peal off, so, make sure you have placed it where you want it before ironing.

After it is ironed, you will just want to sew around the shape, about 1/16 of an inch from the end.   This will have a better hold and not allow the ends to fray very far.  When this has been done, the onesie will hold up better in a washing machine.

Hope you had a whale of a time (corny?).  Well you’re done.  Now go put it on a cute baby!!!
