Urban Outfitters has a wide variety of jewelry that I love to get inspiration from. It features simple pieces as well as eccentric, more intricate pieces of jewelry. Some pieces are on the expensive side, like $300 type of expensive, that I would consider more of a statement piece of jewelry. Rather than having to look over those expensive pieces, take away what you love about it and see if you could recreate it yourself.
Urbanoutfitters.com “Flutter” by Jill Golden Double-Triangle Necklace $333
You will need:
flat nose pliers
- 6mm jump rings $2.99
- large toggle and clasp $5.29
- textured leather $2.99
- thick chain $3.99
- thin chain $3.99
- patience $priceless
Cut out your pieces from the leather. I measured the triangle to be 2 inches wide each side. Cut another triangle the exact size and then cut the 2nd triangle in a V shape.
Take the needle and poke about 3 holes in the inside edge of the V shape. Line your triangle shape inside the V shape and poke holes so that the holes in the triangle and the V shape are aligned. Carefully slide the jump rings into the holes so they’re ready to be attached to the other piece of triangle shaped leather.
Connect the pieces of leather with the jump rings using your flat nose pliers.
At the top of the triangle shape, poke another hole, slide a jump ring through, and attach to the thick chain. I ended up adding a thinner chain at the last minute, using the same process as the thick chain. The thick chain connected all the way around, so I didn’t need to connect the ends. The thing chain had 2 ends that I needed to connect, so I attached the jump rings and added a funky toggle and clasp.
This project took a little bit of time, but it was so worth it because now I am officially obsessed with this necklace. And it certainly helps that the materials cost me less than $25 to recreate, in my very own style.
