DIY Stripe and Peace Sign Plate

Fashion is not the only way to express yourself.  Being a new homeowner, I have come to find that home décor is just as much as a reflection of me.  I have seen tons of posts about decorating ceramics; but, recently I came across a collection by an expensive designer that displayed a good ole’ peace sign.  I knew that would be easy to recreate.  These would be great everyday plates or fun plates for a special occasion.  Check out your local dollar store for bowls and plates of all different sizes.

You will need:

  • Clean plate
  • Permanent Marker
  • Painter’s tape
  • Oven – Preheat 350 degrees

Make sure the surface of the plate is clean and completely dry.  You will now use the painter’s tape to tape off the portion of the plate you would like to remain white.  I just used my eye to measure the distance between the stripes.  After finishing taping, you color the portion of the plate not covered by the tape.  After coloring or drawing your desired pattern, you will put the plate in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Be sure you have removed all the painter’s tape before putting it in the oven.  After the 30 minutes, be careful removing the plate.  Allow it to cool somewhere safe.  After this, the plate can be used. I recommend hand washing these plates; but, you can put them in the dishwasher (keep it on the top rack).

For the peace sign, I took a circular takeout container and traced that for the circle portion.  From that, I drew the rest freehand and just thickened the lines until it reached the desired thickness.
